Short version

I’m looking for my next software developer role, especially one focused on user-facing web applications, visual problem-solving, and rapid prototyping. I have five years of experience at two startups, building interfaces and data tools, and I’ve since designed, built, and shipped dozens of web apps independently. This year, I completed Gauntlet AI’s 10-week engineering fellowship to deepen my work with AI tools and workflows. I’d appreciate advice from software developers and others in the industry on finding a role that fits this experience.

Here is a short video of some of my portfolio projects.

Which kinds of roles or teams would you suggest I focus on, given my experience and the projects shown here?

Medium version

Please read the short version first for my background and a video of my work. Here’s what I’ve tried in my job search so far, and what I haven’t tried.

I’ve been actively searching since July 2026. As of October 2026, I’ve had two first-round interviews.

What I’ve done

  • I offered members of a private group a percentage of my first-year salary for a referral that leads to a job. This hasn’t produced any introductions.
  • I completed Gauntlet AI’s Applied AI Engineering Fellowship.
  • I joined a Never Search Alone Job Search Council, a mutual-support group of fellow job seekers.
  • I automated much of my job research and application process, making it easy to apply to over a dozen roles a day. I use AI to find relevant openings and prepare answers tailored to the role and my experience, then review the applications before submitting.
  • I asked friends for referrals and got interviews through their referrals.
  • I posted on LinkedIn seeking professional opportunities, but the post hasn’t produced any leads.
  • I built a project specifically for a company to prepare for my first interview with them. That interview process did not continue beyond the first round.

What I haven’t done

  • I haven’t worked with a job-search coach or mentor.
  • I haven’t gone to networking events.
  • I haven’t paid for a service that submits hundreds or thousands of job applications for me.

Given what I’ve tried and the results so far, what one or two changes would you prioritize in my job search, and why?
