In Praise of Winterbells

Winterbells is one of my favorite browser games. I thought it died with the death of flash but I found a playable version!

In Winterbells you are a rabbit and you collide with gently falling bells and the occasional bird to jump higher and score points. Each bell is worth 10 more points than the previous bell and each bird doubles your current score. The bells gradually get smaller and when you miss them and fall to the ground the game is over. That's it, it's very simple.

But it's so good! The music is serene and relaxing and so is the gameplay - at first. A delicious tension grows as the bells get smaller and your score balloons into five, six, seven figures. Just one more bird - doubling your score is an irresistible proposition - but at some point a bird will be your last bird.

There's no strategy, no calculating. The only thoughts while playing Winterbells are "touch thing" and "🎵dooooooooo DO doooo doooo doooodoooo🎵." Because it was made many internet generations ago, the game doesn't ask you to watch ads or share it or donate to the creator. It only gives which makes it even more heartwarming.

Winterbells is a mug of hot cocoa in front a roaring fireplace. It's a gingerbread cookie fresh from the oven. It's a wintery delight and I hope you check it out.
